Cornwall
Food and
Farming
Group

Welcome to CFFG!

The Cornwall Food and Farming Group is an enthusiastic bunch of people from all walks of life – both rural and urban – working together to spread the appreciation of Cornish produce even wider than it is now. Farming, food production, healthy eating and the future of the countryside are the subject of much current debate. Add to these, the benefits of locally produced food and the importance of a sustainable local economy and you have the hot topics that motivate us.

Food and Farming Pavilion Royal Cornwall Show 2011

CFFG’s Food and Farming Pavilion at the Royal Cornwall Show is the principal showcase for the county’s food and drink producers and one of the most visited parts of this extremely

Is an on-line resource for schools - an informative and fun way for children to gain a better understanding of farming in Cornwall and what makes the food it produces so special.

You can find out what is

happening on the farm season by season – in the yard and out in the fields with some great ideas on how to  prepare seasonal produce in the kitchen. Loads of information, photographs and fun activities.

ROYAL CORNWALL
Only a few weeks to go and preparations for CFFG’s Cornwall Food and Farming Pavilion are in place: all the space is let; plans are in hand for Jubilee celebrations and entries are coming in for our Cornish food and farming awards.
Estimates are that eighty per cent of the huge show crowd (last year 125,000) visits the Pavilion and stallholders have reported extraordinary sales figures over the three days – 15,000 sausages from one producer, 2 tonnes of bread from another - and publicity for their businesses that they would not be able to pay for and which continues to generate sales long after the dust has settled on the showground.
What makes it so special?  Apart from the mouth-watering array of foods on offer, the enticing smells and tasty morsels to sample, there is a great atmosphere.   Come and enjoy it all – 7th, 8th and 9th June.
WHO CARES ABOUT FARMING AND LOCAL FOOD IN CORNWALL?
Not the Cornwall County Council it would seem!
County Hall’s strategic proposals for future land use in Cornwall ignore the value of food and farming to the county.
CFFG registered its disquiet during the consultation period.
NEW PROJECTS

Food and Farming Day for Schools 2013

March 2013 will see the first food and farming day for schools to be held at the Wadebridge showground.  Hundreds of primary school children will have the chance to get a real understanding of farming in Cornwall and the food it produces. Displays with hands-on activities, live animals and working machinery will fill a busy day.

CFFG is working in partnership with Royal Cornwall Agricultural Association (RCAA) to take forward exciting projects like this and we hope other farming organisations and businesses will want to get involved to make this a really special event for Cornish schoolchildren.

Fun and Games

Free colourful activity sheets filled with games, activities and information will shortly be available.  Aimed at under-tens, the first two in the series look at dairy farming in Cornwall and the wheat harvest.  They would be ideal for farm holiday cottages catering for families with young children. Copies will be available from our stand at the show and from the show office at Wadebridge.
